Thyroid Answers Podcast #5: I’m Hypothyroid, what do I do now?
(Released: Jan 31, 2017)
When you get diagnosed Hypothyroid, the first thought is often, what do I do now? Dr Eric Balcavage and Dr Erica Riggleman discuss some of the things that you can and should do when you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism.
There is a lot more that you could and should do when you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Traditional medicine has this dogma that all that is needed once you are diagnosed with hypothyroidism is thyroid hormone medication.
While this may work well for some, there is a large portion of patients who don’t significantly improve on thyroid hormone medication alone. This may be you!
The leading cause of hypothyroidism is an autoimmune condition called Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis. Thyroid hormone medication does not address the cause of your autoimmunity. Because of this, there is often continued destruction of your thyroid gland, continued thyroid symptoms and development of more autoimmune conditions.
